Chapter 4

Chloe froze and immediately went to cover my granddaughter's mouth.

My granddaughter pulled her hand away with some annoyance and said seriously, "Mom, you shouldn't cover people's mouths like that. That grandma said it's wrong!"

Chloe looked a bit flustered and immediately explained to me, "Mom, don't overthink it."

"She's talking about a grandmother in the neighborhood who treats her like her own granddaughter."

"And besides..."

My granddaughter interrupted her, puzzled. "Mom, that's not right!"

"I don't know any grandma from the neighborhood."

"I'm talking about my real grandma!"

Chloe panicked and tried to pull my granddaughter away.

I couldn't help but speak up. "Daisy, come back."

Hearing me, Daisy let go of Chloe and ran toward me. "What's wrong, Grandma?"

I pursed my lips and asked in a hoarse voice, "Am I not your real grandma?"

"Who is this 'real grandma' you're talking about?"

Daisy shook her head innocently and said truthfully, "Daddy said my real grandma is Serena."

"He even takes me to see my real grandma often!"

"My real grandma is very nice to me. I like her very much!"

As soon as these words were out, I froze in place, feeling my heart bleed.

It turned out that from beginning to end, I was the only one in the dark!

I curled my lips and said stiffly, "Okay, you go home now."

Chloe was too nervous to look at me and whispered, "Mom, I..."

I interrupted her immediately. I didn't want to hear any more excuses.

As soon as she led Daisy out, the house manager walked in.

He handed me a DNA report and said heavily, "Jason is indeed not your biological son."

I had a breakdown and shouted, "Then where is my child? Where is my child now!"

The house manager hurried to support me and said, "We have already sent people to look for the child, but there is one thing I think you need to see."

He handed me a torn piece of paper.

"I found this on Jason."

"He tore this page out himself. I think he didn't want you to see it."

I took the paper. The date on it was very familiar.

It was the day Henry was diagnosed with heart failure.

I continued reading, and my pupils constricted the moment I saw the first line.

"Jason, I have thought about this for a long time and decided to use this method to protect you and your mother."

"I know this might be cruel to you both, but Dad has to do this."

"I was born with a bad heart and have heart failure. I stopped taking my medicine, which made it worse. Today, I dragged Eleanor to the hospital for a check-up. As expected, I was diagnosed with heart failure."

"Only this way will Eleanor feel guilty. After I die, she will do everything to be good to you. I believe that before long, the position of Chairperson of the group will be yours."

"I will leave all my inheritance to you and your mother after I die. Remember, you must not let Eleanor know, don't let her come to the scene!"
