The company rolled out a "rank-and-yank" performance system. Despite generating over seventy million dollars in revenue for the firm, I was laid off.

I went to HR to politely ask for an explanation.

She was casually chewing on sunflower seeds and answered without even looking up.

"Listen, Nora, you did bring in revenue, but your formula development costs were way too high."

"By the time the accounting team crunches the numbers, the company barely made a dime off of you!"
